Winners (Bengaluru) of Wonderla Environment and Energy Conservation Awards (WEECA) 2019 Announced
Bengaluru, Thursday, February 27th 2020:
Wonderla Holidays today announced the winners of the “Wonderla Environment & Energy Conservation Awards – 2019” for schools across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu who have adopted innovative ways to conserve natural resources. The evening started with a cultural program followed by the award distribution ceremony held at the Wonderla Park, Bengaluru. Ms. Radhika Narayan, Kannada Film Actress presented the awards to the winners in the presence of Mr. George Joseph, Joint Managing Director of Wonderla Holidays and Bengaluru Park Head Mr. Mahesh MB.
WEECA - “Wonderla Environment & Energy Conservation Awards” is an annual property of Wonderla Holidays to acknowledge and reward schools, that have adopted the most innovative and effective practices to conserve and manage natural resources in their premises and to create awareness about the environment in younger minds and encourage them to ‘Go Green’.
The eight consecutive year of “Wonderla Environment & Energy Conservation Awards” contest received an overwhelming response with over 200 schools from across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu sending in their entries. The short-listing of nominations was based on a complete audit of the schools’ overall environmental practices carried out by its management and students. Wonderla has been ISO 14001 certified for being environment friendly and conserving natural resources, and has taken up several ‘Go Green’ and ‘Save Nature’ initiatives in support of green movement.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. George Joseph, Joint Managing Director of Wonderla Holidays said, “Wonderla Environment & Energy Conservation Awards is very much in line with our brand’s objective to create a green world. The key objective of the award is to create awareness amongst the school children about the importance of nature and why it is critical to conserve and protect nature. The award was instituted to encourage schools to help and build a healthier environment through the involvement of students who can evolve to be green warriors in the future.”
Mr. Joseph further added, “We are very pleased with the responses we have received and would like to congratulate all the winners. I also thank each participating school who came forward and took part in this noble initiative.”
The 1st prizewinner Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Hosur was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50, 000/-. The 2nd prize was shared by Delhi Public School, Bengaluru North and Christ School (Dharmaram College P.O), Bengaluru with each being given a cash award of Rs, 25,000/-. The 3rd prize was shared between 3 schools - Coorg Public School, Coorg, Jnanadeepa Senior Secondary School, Javalli and Vagdevi Vilas School, Marathahalli, Bengaluru with each school being given a cash award of Rs. 15000/-.
From this edition of the awards, in addition to the awards given to schools, the teachers who undertook initiatives and supports students in implementing various environment and energy conservation activities in schools were recognized and facilitated Mr. Baskar Naik M from D K Z P M H P School, Dakshina Kannada, won the first prize in this category, followed by Mr. Sunil A from Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva High School, Dakshina Kannada, at second place and Mr. Chandrashekar from Govt High School Iggalure at third place. The first, second and third place winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively along with Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation.
Apart from the cash prize, the winners were also awarded with a ‘Trophy’ and ‘Certificate of Appreciation’. In addition, Wonderla also gave away special recognition awards to 30 other schools across Karnataka.

Wonderla Environment and Energy Conservation Awards (Kochi) Presented
Environment and Energy conservation Awards instituted by Wonderla Holidays for schools in Kerala and Tamil Nadu were presented to the winners by renowned film actor Shri. Indrans, at the function held in Wonderla Kochi on Wednesday, 19th February 2020.
The first prize winner Excel Public School, Kunnamkulam, Thrissur District was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50000. S H Higher Secondary School, Perunnai, Kottayam and Chavara Darsan CMI Public School, Koonammavu, Ernakulam shared the second position and were awarded Rs. 25000 each. A cash prize of Rs.15000 was awarded to M.N.U.J. Nadar Higher Secondary School, Madurai (Tamil Nadu), K.E. Carmel Central School, Muhamma (Alappuzha) and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom (Thiruvananthapuram) who shared the third position. Apart from the cash prize, the winners were also awarded with a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.

From this edition of the awards, in addition to the awards given to schools, the teachers who undertook initiatives and supports students in implementing various environment and energy conservation activities in schools were recognized and facilitated. Sr. Gigi P James from St. Mary’s Girl’s High School, Kanjirappilly, Kottayam won the first prize in this category, followed by Mr. A.M. Anzari from K.V.U.P. School, Pangode, Thiruvananthapuram at second place and Mr. Askar Ali from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Vythiri, Wayanad at third place. The first, second and third place winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively along with Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation.
The function was presided over by Wonderla Holidays Founder Shri. Kochouseph Chittilappilly in the presence of Wonderla Holidays Ltd. Joint Managing Director, Shri. George Joseph. The keynote address was delivered by Shri. Indrans. Wonderla Kochi Park Head, Shri. Ravikumar M. A. welcomed the guests and Asst. Manager - HSE, Shri. Gigarin Chacko delivered vote of thanks. While addressing the students, Shri. Indrans stated that the award distributed to the schools will help in building awareness among the students on the importance of protecting and conserving nature. He also wished the students, the future generation to be better nature lovers.

Bhashyam Blooms Boys Residential School (Hyderabad) Appa Public School (Kalaburagi) and Viswasanthi English Medium High School (Krishna Dist) who shared the third position were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/- each.
